"Published: 1/25/10, 12:00 AM EDT By Ed Henry, CNN Washington (CNN) - President Obama will announce in Wednesday's State of the Union address that he's proposing to save $250 billion by freezing all nonsecurity federal discretionary spending for three years, according to two senior administration officials. The proposed freeze, which could help position Obama in the political center by sharpening his credentials on fiscal discipline, would exempt the budgets of the departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs, along with some international programs.
"We are at war, and we're going to make sure our troops are funded adequately," one of the senior officials said.
The officials would not reveal the details of which domestic programs would be cut, as they prepare to face major pushback from liberals in the president's own party because popular education and health spending could be on the chopping block. The details will be officially unveiled February 1, when the president publicly releases his next budget blueprint for fiscal year 2011 -- which starts October 1 -- and beyond.
"We've got to make some tough decisions," the second senior official said. "Everybody is not going to get what they want." Unbelievable - they were blind, deaf and dumb to the American people and suddenly they see, hear and speak about what really needs doing?

Refer to Ryan’s post 1/21/2010: celiberalcom.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=generalpolitics&action=display&thread=55The Financial Times Deutschland writes: "For Obama, the election in Massachusetts means that he will have to re-evaluate his political style. He could now focus his concentration on his political base and push through his policy agenda. After all, he still has a majority in Congress -- he could back away from his strategy of bipartisanship ... which would mean giving up much of what he spent his first year in office creating." " More likely, however, is that Obama will interpret the Massachusetts loss as a signal that he should move further toward the middle and make more concessions to the conservatives -- even if this alienates his base even further, a base which had high expectations from the 'yes we can' candidate." The Germans do get it...

It all boils down to this. Obama, in one way or another, is going to do nothing but try to hoodwink America (again). I'll still never understand how so many unaffiliated voters were so credulous in the first place, but I do not believe he can regain his weird popularity of a year ago by charm or oratory again. I never got that at all, did any of you guys? I mean besides the obvious vapidity of his campaign speeches, am I missing something when I say the man's a dull and mediocre speaker?
